the beginning

Just a quick little post about Kindergarten. The three kids that I said I would pick to be in Meechi's class? One is in the other class. One is not going to this school at all anymore. And one, the one Meechi would tell you is his BEST friend, is in his class. Yay! One out of three is better than nothing. He also has two of the biggest pain-in-the-a$$ kids in the school in his class, but that is a story for another day.

It is really too early to tell how well things are going. The first day he said he had fun and then was a grouch all evening long. Seven hour school days are a bit tiring I think. Yesterday was only his second day as this is his first full week. Much better attitude last evening. He again said he had fun but then was declaring he didn't want to go to school again this morning.

Every morning seems to be the same... he says he doesn't want to go. He cries or whines at drop off time and clings on to me or his daddy (whichever is dropping him off that day). He calms down a few minutes after we leave and has a good day. I am just waiting for drop off to get easier.

I do not have any pictures to share. Nope. Did not get any first day of Kindergarten photos. hey, his dad took him, not me. I will get some taken sometime this week and call them first week of Kindergarten photos I guess.

The first few weeks are hard. If it makes you feel any better, Miras never really preferred school to staying home with Mom (or even all alone according to him). I hear from other parents whose kids come home all excited or don't want to leave. Not my kid. He can't wait to leave and doesn't really want to go in the morning. However, if I left it up to him to choose, he'd spend the entire day at home in his pjs watching cartoons. So off to school he goes! p.s. Have you spoken to the teachers or snuck in to observe whether he is actually enjoying the experience more than he makes it out to be? I think that would help your peace of mind and you could potentially offer suggestions for the teacher if you see an intervention that would allow M to be more comfortable or engaged.
