Clueless

sooooooooooo.....
the Kindergarten teacher lost my kid yesterday.
Yep. She lost him.
But that is not all.
She didn't even know she lost him.
Nope. She had no clue.

I went to pick Meechi up from school and was standing outside in the smoldering heat along with all the other K parents. After what felt like forever, but was really only five minutes, Meechi's teacher comes out with her class. Make that part of her class. It seemed a bit odd to me that there were only about ten or twelve kids with her when I know there are a few helluva lot more kids in the class than that. I was looking at the little faces and did not see Meechi's among them. I also did not see his best buddy (who for the sake of anonymity we will just refer to as Buddy from now on here at the blog). The small number of kids with the teacher had me thinking that maybe she had only brought out part of the class and the rest were on their way out. With a teacher's aid maybe? I didn't know, but it seemed logical enough. His daddy has been picking him up so far, so I was not real sure of the procedures.

I stood there for a minute and finally more kids came out. It was the other K class though. I looked among their faces to see if for some reason Meechi got mixed up in the shuffle out the door. He was not with that group either. A couple more minutes went by and I was starting to get concerned; wondering where the hell my kid was. About this time another group of kids comes out and a third teacher has Meechi, who is in tears, with her. She is yelling for Meech's teacher. The sort of yelling that says, "you screwed up." It was obvious that she was not happy with Miss Barbie (again, not the real name but Barbie pretty accurately describes Meechi's teacher so we'll go with it), and neither was I. It was obvious at this point that Miss Barbie had not only lost my son but had no idea that she had lost him.

On the walk home Meechi explained to me what happened. When it was time to line up at the end of the day, he and Buddy decided they didn't want to line up. They didn't want to leave the classroom, and so they didn't. I would love to know HOW the hell Miss Barbie didn't notice two little boys hanging out in the room rather than lining up! So Meechi and Buddy stayed in the classroom for a few minutes until they realized that nobody was coming back. Then they wandered out into the hall and thankfully found another teacher, who is the one who brought them outside.

I am still not real sure why there were so few kids outside with Miss Barbie. I am guessing maybe quite a few ride the bus since they go out a different door. But I do know that two of the kids that were not outside with her were Meechi and his friend and if they could be missing without her knowing it, so could some of the others.

This does not instill a great deal of confidence for me in dear Miss Barbie.

Oh man, I would have been livid! Hopefully someone in charge knows about this... The children's safety should be her first priority.

Oh wow... that is scary :/. I hope she realizes her mistake and will be more vigilant going forward.
