This is just one more reason...

why Miss Barbie bugs the crap out of me.

I have plenty of reasons why Meechi's kindergarten teacher annoys me to the point of wanting to pull him out of school and homeschool him. Today is just one more for the list.

Here is what the note that came home with him today says:
"Our class has been adding one number for each school day to our growing number line. The 100th day of school is coming up soon, and it will be a major celebration. One of the things we will do to celebrate is create a 100 museum that will contain collections of 100 thins brought in by each child. Children have been thinking about things they might collect, such as a chain of 100 paper clips, a collection of 100 baseball cards, a necklace with 100 beads, or a building made from 100 blocks. We have been talking about ways to count the collections without losing track of the numbers. Making groups of 10 is a good way to count and display the objects.
Children may need a little help gathering materials, but they should be able to do most of the work themselves. Your child can bring in his or her collection as soon as it is ready."

It goes on to say in bold letters:
start a collection of 100 objects.
count your objects and arrange them in whatever way you like.
bring your 100th day project to school by: 1-26-12

This note was sent home today! Today is the 24th! It is due the 26th!
REALLY?!?

Oh ya, start a collection and bring it whenever it is ready..... oh, and you have 2 days to do it.

Oh Miss Barbie! Please catch a freaking clue!!!

Seriously... I can't wait until this chick has kids some day and their teachers pull this kind of crap.

I know it is not impossible to throw together some half-assed project in 6 hours (and really, that is all the time he has in evenings (3 hrs each night) to do something like this considering when he gets out of school, the fact that he needs time to play, and that he has an early bedtime since it takes him forever to go to sleep) but this is Meechi we are talking about here. Mr. OCD! Whatever he does he is going to want it to be perfect and perfect does not happen for him in six hours!

I am having devious thoughts right now. Like if I knew Miss Barbie hated spiders then I would be sure to send 100 freaking hairy arachnids to school on Thursday!
Hey! I never claimed to be perfect. Or nice!

Pennies are easy, and cheap!

We have done pennies before. In fact I think we did them last year. But that was when the kids only had to bring 100 of something. This year he has to arrange them in groups and make some sort of display. Other than piles of pennies I don't see an option to do that with pennies. It isn't having to get 100 of something that is the hard part, the hard part is making an arranged display of whatever it is.

Fruit Loops, arranged by color on a string?
Or different types of pasta on a string or glued to cardboard?

Just some springboard ideas.

Miss Barbie is a twit.

I can empathize with you as Miras's class newsletter (delivered on Friday afternoon - but we don't usually have time to read it until Sunday)said on the second page near the end to come dressed as a character from the Wizard of Oz on Thursday. Yea, and I work full time and travel. So on Tuesday night, while I should have been packing, I was putting together a homemade costume (and I am not too crafty). I like the pennies idea. Just go to a bank and get a couple of rolls of them (that would be a good organizational system). Or nickels as they come in rolls of 20 (I think). Otherwise Cheerios or Fruitloops will have to do. Just remember - Martha Stewart we aint!

Yikes, I hate late notices and I hate more project sent home during holidays. I refuse to do that. Holidays are for relaxing, and let's face it, the project would be done Sunday night before the return to school.
I realize I'm reading this the day the project was due, so my idea is too late, but for next year maybe... A 100 fingerprint Tree foliage. Draw a tree trunk with marker and then using paint or washable ink stamps dip the fingers into the paint and make fingerprint leaves for the tree.
I'm having my Kindergarten students do that, while only the grade 1 students are being invited to do a collection. We still have 2 weeks as we didn't start school until after Labour day.
